Our Blog Discussion for the week is about Heroes :-) Happy blogging.

What is a hero?

What is your definition of a hero? Who is your hero?

I believe a hero is someone who puts others before himself. A hero shows integrity and selflessness. My heroes are everyday people who help others. Firefighters and police officers are heroes.

Rights of Royals

Britain spends millions and millions of dollars to support the royal family. Some people say this is too much money. Do you think this is a good use of money? Should people have special rights because they were born into royalty? Why or why not?

Summer is Almost Here!!!!

What are your plans this summer?
I am teaching summer school for 2nd grade. I am also joining the Sunset Hills Pool! Does anyone ever go swimming there? Charlie, Nick, and I may see you!

Next Year

I am excited to go to Concord next year, but I am also a little nervous and scared. A lot of my teacher friends are going to other schools. I am worried that we will not get to hang out as much. I am happy to make new friends, but I am worried I will lose old friends. How are you all feeling?

Wringer Reflections

What do you think of our new read aloud book? Please post your reflections. Remember, check back to read the posts and comment on other people's reflections.  Let's have a virtual discussion!

Here is what I have been thinking...

This book reminds me of Middle School. When I was in Middle School I felt pressured to hangout with certain people and act certain ways. Palmer is being pressured to be a wringer and hang out with the gang. At the end of the chapter yesterday I was excited to see Palmer starting to stand up for himself! I am wondering about what will happen to Nipper? I predict that Palmer will take Nipper far away and try to make him fly away. Palmer will not want Nipper to stay in town during Family Fest.

Weekly Update May 2nd-May 6th

Math-I am very proud of the Volume test scores. The students did a super job! This week we will look briefly at negative numbers using a thermometer, then we will dive into double digit divisor long division.

Reading-We are winding down our book clubs. I have been very proud of the independence students have shown in their self-led discussions. The literature "movie" roles they have been given have really helped them build the skills to have book talks without the teacher! We will continue to practice our monitoring skills during independent reading.

Writing-Tomorrow we will begin our Board game Bonanza project. This project is the culmination of our functional writing unit.

This project will be done at school. This is not a project that should be brought home for homework. Ample time will be provided in the classroom.

Word Study- The word study words the last month of school will be states and capitals. The word study contract has been modified for these words. I provided a lot of time in class to study words last week and some students still did not do well on the word study test. Please be sure your child reviews these words nightly.
