Weekly Update 9-19

Good Evening!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I know I enjoyed going to the Lindbergh Flyers football game Friday evening. It was fun to see all of the school spirit! We had to leave at half time because Charlie and Nicholas were well past their bed time!

Math
Last week in math we finished Chapter 3: Add and Subtract Whole Numbers. Overall I was pleased with our test scores. These tests will be coming home tomorrow but the scores are on SIS now. Monday we begin Chapter 4: Algebra: Use Addition and Subtraction. This chapter can intimidate some students as we introduce the use of letters into math! Remember that you can access the math book online to help students with homework questions.

Reading
Last week we began working on the questioning strategy. Be sure to ask your student the difference between a thick and a thin question. I encourage students to stop, think, and record their questions throughout the reading process. I was super excited to see the great reading responses that were posted to the blog last week! We will do the same thing this week with a focus on questioning rather than inferences.

Writing
Last week we finished publishing our personal narratives. This week we will work on choosing titles and sharing our writing. We will have our first writers' buffet!

Social Studies
Last week the students begin Social Studies with Mrs. Davis.

On a side note I will be out 2 half days this week. Thursday afternoon I will be out for literacy training and Friday afternoon I will be out for my son's doctor appointment.

Have a great week!

  1. Mrs.Phillips is the best teacher you can ever get! She makes sure that you understand what she is saying and for LEAP students she makes sure we know what to do. This is my first year and I am already having a blast! Thanks to Mrs.Phillips!!!!
