Math-
We are diving into fractions this week! The idea of fractions scare some students. I am working hard to dismiss their preconceived fears about fractions. We have a test on fractions tentatively scheduled for next Monday the 28th.
We are also discussing some geometry vocabulary in our morning work. This week we will discuss and explore:
- right, acute, and obtuse angles
- intersecting lines
- parallel lines
- perpendicular lines
This week we will continue to focus on determining the importance in reading passages. We are also reviewing author's purpose, main idea, supporting details, and summarizing.
I have made the decision to temporarily stop weekly reading responses. Students are still expected to read 20 minutes a night, however they do not have a weekly check-in assignment (blog paragraph, written response). I am very pleased with the young readers the students are becoming. I do not want to stifle their love of reading with an assignment every week. I will reinstate the weekly assignments if I see a need.
Writing-
The choice pieces are due Tuesday, March 1st. I am encouraging students to type their polished piece. They may type the pieces at home. However, please do not edit their piece at home. I want the students to work through the writing process on their own. Thanks for you help with this!
Word Study-
New words will go out tomorrow. The next study test will be next Friday, March 4th. Contracts will also be due that day.
